Short Moral stories
The Biggest Liar In The World Is “They Say”
“A lie can travel halfway around the world, while the truth is putting on its shoes”
Mark Twain
“Rumors are mostly a projection of the individual who started them”
Royar. Rad
As truly said by Douglas Malloch that the biggest liar in the world is “They Say”.
Let’s read the below story to understand the meaning of the quote!
Once upon a time, an old man spread rumors that his neighbor was a thief. As a result, the young man was arrested. Days later the young man was proven innocent. After being released, the man felt humiliated as he walked back to his home. He sued the old man for wrongly accusing him.
In Court, the old man told the judge, “Those were just comments, and didn’t harm anyone”. The judge, before passing sentence on the case, told the old man, “Write all the things you said about him on a piece of paper; cut them up, and on the way home, throw the pieces of paper out. Please come back tomorrow to hear the sentence”.
The next day, the judge told the old man, “Before receiving the sentence you will have to go out and gather all the pieces of paper that you threw out yesterday”. The old man said, “I cannot do that! The wind must have spread them around and I don’t know where to find them”.
The judge then replied, “The same way, careless comments may destroy the honor of a man to such an extent that one is not able to fix it”. The old man realized his mistake and asks for forgiveness.“.
Moral of the Story
It is very easy to listen and spread rumors especially when our name is not involved. We don’t try to validate whether it’s true or not. Especially in today’s world when technology is at our fingertips, the rumor spread at light speed, irrelevant of the facts and consequences.
By doing this we are unconsciously spreading rumors which may have a long-term impact on the person we are spreading the rumors about. So the next time you share a message is sure to seek more information and validate facts.
Speaking badly of others only reveals the flawed and insecure side of ourselves. Do not malign or blame anyone. Your words may ruin someone’s reputation irreparably, for no fault of theirs.
It is better to walk through the facts than to jump to the conclusions.
